Anthony Medeiros
Biography
Anthony Medeiros is a mediator, civic educator, and leader of high-impact dialogue and conflict initiatives. Anthony serves as the Director of the Community Dialogue Project (CDP) at Brown University, where he designs and leads experiential learning programs that help emerging leaders build the skills to deepen effective communication, engage in dialogue, and resolve conflict. Drawing on a deep background leading peacebuilding and democratic pluralism programs, Anthony trains and leads a cohort of student facilitators to hold authentic dialogue across differences.
Since joining Brown in 2025, Anthony has led the relaunch of CDP and built a cohort of student leaders advancing dialogic skills, attitudes, and practices.
Previously, Anthony served as a United States diplomat and USAID Foreign Service Officer, managing democracy, human rights, and peace programs. He most recently served as Deputy Director of the office of Democracy, Governance, and Peace in Kinshasa, overseeing work in the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic, and Gabon. His earlier postings included Uganda, Senegal, and Washington.
He brings 15+ years of global experience leading teams and overseeing $100M+ project portfolios to strengthen human rights and pluralism. He has managed partnerships and grants with leading dialogue and democracy organizations including the Carter Center, IFES, religious and civil society organizations in DRC and Uganda, and multi-party democracy collaborations between NDI and IRI. Highlights of his past work include launching youth leadership and civic engagement programs in Uganda, supporting an interfaith electoral observation mission in DRC, and standing up technical assistance to the constitutional dialogue and electoral reforms in post-coup Gabon. He has also conducted conflict and human rights research in Nigeria, India, and Malaysia. Anthony is a certified mediator and dialogue facilitator and holds a master's in city planning from MIT, where he focused on political, land-based, and intergroup conflict.
