For Brown Community

Brown students, faculty, and staff experience the Community Dialogue Project through a variety of engagement opportunities and training programs designed to build skills in communication, conflict resolution, and community-building, along with additional direct services. 

Opportunities to engage with CDP include:

Modules: Participate in foundational training modules that cover key communication and conflict resolution skills.

Training modules offered by CDP:

Upon-Request Workshops and Direct Services: Students can request workshops or direct services that focus on specific needs, whether related to conflict mediation, community engagement, or personal growth in communication skills.

Ongoing In-Service Training &Coaching: Students receive support and guidance through one-on-one coaching to refine their abilities in real-world situations.

Become a Facilitator: Student facilitators are employed by CDP to help in the creation, revision, and presentation of modules as well as other logistical tasks for the internal and external operations of CDP.

For Faculty & Staff: Faculty and staff can explore and integrate the following areas into their roles:

  • Incorporating communication skill development in course design.
  • Incorporating dialogue practices in course design.
  • Techniques for building effective communication skills in group work and lab settings.
  • Approaches for giving and receiving feedback.
  • Strategies for handling difficult conversations.
  • Engaging across differences to foster inclusive dialogue.

Along with direct services in:

  • Canvas Commons Modules: Ready-to-use instructional materials.
  • Course Design Consultation: Tailored guidance to incorporate dialogue practices.
  • Facilitation and Mediation: Support for resolving conflicts and fostering collaboration.
  • Conflict Coaching: Personalized strategies for managing and addressing disputes.
